I've been reading about the ten-year multiple-entry visa for India, and it seems like a pretty good deal. But my (US) passport expires in 2014. What happens then?
Should I try to get a loose-leaf visa that isn't pasted into the passport, so I can keep using the visa after the passport expires? Is that possible? I don't see it mentioned anywhere on the website.
Thanks!

I found this in their FAQ section.
You can also try contacting the Indian consulate in SF. Looks like they want to direct you to that website anyway, but there is at least an email address for them on that page.

Thanks, Hydro! I missed that. So it looks like it's $38 to transfer the visa from an old passport to a new one, on top of the $163 initially. Hmm... Still not a bad deal for someone who knows they'll be coming and going, but since I'm only sure of one visit, and it isn't for a year, I think I may wait and get a six-month visa just before I go. I'll be in Southeast Asia, so I can probably get it in Bangkok.
Thanks for helping me sort it all out!

Its a great deal for somebody coming and going! I have one. Only US passport holders get this. Not UK nor EU

US gets 10 because of agreements. Bi-lateral. Actually if you do not mind carrying the old expired passport with new then you do not have to transfer the visa. I carried a few unexpired multiple entry Business visas on an expired passport.
