Figure out the best place to stay on Khao San Road in Bangkok and where to escape when you've had enough of the mayhem. From Singapore Slings to the changes in Bejing after the 2008 Olympics, gab about it all here.

Is this enough time to get out of the airport and do something? I'll be in Manila for the layover (Thursday 9 June) 10:00-22:00.

You can go to the Mall of Asia if you want, off of Roxas. Have a couple meals in the city. From the airport it is almost a straight shot down Roxas to the Ermita area. You can walk around that area, Robinson Mall is the dominant anchor store for that area.

Too bad you didn't allow more time for Manila, like maybe arrive a day earlier, use a hotel, and take a little more time in seeing the city. This way you arrive back at the airport after a shower and brief sleep too.

From the airport you can use the Yellow Taxi Service, just outside the arrivals hall. This taxi costs a little more than a random taxi you fight for dropping off at departures - but it is safer. Cheaper than the regular Airport Transportation also just outside the arrivals hall.

There are some museums in Manila, there is nightlife but with a late departure you will miss most of the fun.

Good luck.
