Hello,
I've been working on a project in Nicaragua/ Mexico and Guatemala, and have a few days in the capital before I head back to the states. I was looking for advice on a feasible adventure (either a day trip from the city or a Sat/Sun trip), and was wondering if people have suggestions on beaches, surfing, hiking, kayaking, bike riding, or anything else along those lines that is not overly touristy. I've traveled in Guatemala years ago, and loved Lake Atitlan, Antigua, Tikal, Rio Dulce, Cayos, etc... but was hoping to try someplace new and was just wondering what I can fit in during a short stopover in Guate... was thinking of renting a car to visit old friends in El Salvador, but am realizing that there wouldn't be enough time for that, so any Guate suggestions would be welcome. (and I'm fluent in Spanish and understand the security concerns, so please just share ideas and suggestions)
Gracias!

Maybe take a bus to Copan, visit the ruins. that would kill a couple of days quite pleasantly

I'd maybe spend them exploring the city itself.
Manuel from http://www.quetzalroo.com/ is the man to ask about this... his recommendations for me never disappointed.

Copan, hands down the best one-2 day adventure from Guat City I´d say Todos Santos, but it takes two days just to get there, given that the bus to Todos Santos leaves very early in the morning from Huehuetenango, or a town like that.

Another recommendation for Copan. If you've already been to Tikal, it's a good contrast. The ruins are nowhere near as majestic, but the craftsmanship of the stellae at Copan is the best I've seen in the Maya world. Nearby Copan Ruinas is a charming little Honduran village with a good range of places to stay. The site doesn't get the number of tourists that you find at Tikal or Palenque, although you won't have it all to yourself either.
