A travel disaster doesn't have to the trip or fun!!

Postby WT » September 18th, 2009

We have been traveling the world nonstop as a family going on 4 years now, living large on little and having a ball! So many people worry about what can go wrong, but 99.9% none of those worries ever happen & extended travel is much easier, cheaper & rewarding than most realize!

Most of our travels have been idyllic! Still, when you travel as much as we have

...(30 countries, 4 continents, over 150,000 miles so far -most overland with much walking & biking and using every mode of transportation from cargo ships to camels!)...one is bound to hit some challenges along the way.

Recently I was in a bike wreck in Austria & ended up in the hospital with a broken arm and surgery.

I am posting about it here so others can see that even when you do hit those challenges when traveling, they don't have to stop you or the fun.

It is actually a blessing that it happened on the road because we always have high deductible insurance, so it would have cost MUCH more at home in US & the care was superior here.

Don't worry, be happy & follow your family travel dreams!

I just went to your site yesterday to read about your accident - YIKES! I had heard you had had some type of accident, but wasn't sure what happened. I guess you really are lucky that all went well in the end - even though you would certainly prefer not to fall in the first place!

Take care and I hope it all progresses well!

Thanks Nancy! Tons of hard core bikers along the Danube, I just had a freak accident that could happen anywhere. I know you guys have dealt with some things too & the longer one travels the odds increase i suppose as every life will have a challenge or 2! ;)

You know my brother died in a bike wreck, so yeah, i'm real glad that it was my arm & not a broken neck! Great care here too in Austria & so much cheaper than in US.

LOTS 2 be grateful for!

I'm getting antzy so heading to London in early oct to meet some old friends! Will help motivate me thru my PT! lol
