A Year on the Road!
It's hard to believe we've already been on the road for a year. A whole year!! We pedaled away from the northern coast of Alaska 12 months ago and have since cycled 8500 miles through 7 countries. It's been a wild ride! I've written an article about it here if you are interested.

Wow Nancy, fantastic love it! I was thinking of cycling New Zealand with my son, instead of hiring an expensive camper, and seeing the excitement in his eyes when I suggested it made me think more seriously! Now reading that, I'm pretty set it's the way to go. Must find more time to read your blog! Take care x

Re: A Year on the Road!
I'll admit that there are days when I would just as soon bag it all and head back to our nice, comfortable home. But then - I've learned that this, too, shall pass. We can't wait to get down to South America and up into the mountains where it won't be so bloody hot!

Re: A Year on the Road!
Congrats Nancy and family!! So cool! Boy, it goes by fast, doesn't it? I'm glad you are not stopping, I'm always a little sad when people stop after a year as so many do. I can't believe we are soon heading into our 4th year of our open ended world tour. Sometimes I wonder if we will ever stop as we love the adventure.
You go girl!! I wonder if you will be in South America when we get there. Be careful what you ask for too as I was just reading about how cold the winters are in Argentina ( and these travelers were inside a house with a fireplace ...freezing). Ah, the joys of travel.
If only it could always be spring time, eh?
We do our best to find that, but not always successful.
I imagine it is even more of a challenge on a bike! I often think of you guys when we are riding our bikes ( loved biking the vineyards in France and long treks in Ireland). (But when my butt gets sore, I'm glad to stop and use other modes.
)We might meet up with another family on bikes in Europe this year if our paths converge.
Happy travels!!

Re: A Year on the Road!
WOW! Well done. I have been trying to keep up with your travels whenever internet access has allowed.
My daughter and I have now been going for fourteen months and are currently living in Mexico, which we are loving. Previously we just spent a few days in each place.
Let's keep in touch, if our paths cross it would be fantastic to meet up.

Wow! How did you afford to travel for so long? I would love to do something like that, but don't even know where to begin to plan...

Go for it! We put up a fairly extensive resources section on our website (http://familyonbikes.org/resources.htm) which has information about planning and finances and gear and equipment and.... Hopefully it will give you some ideas on how to get started!
I've also posted an article with links to lots of other places with info here - http://www.examiner.com/x-6098-Boise-In ... d-Vacation

Re: A Year on the Road!
Nancy, we will get to South America but our open ended world tour has no time frame, we always play it by ear. My latest surgery and broken arm will definite delay us, just as my first hospitalization in Vienna added time!
http://www.soultravelers3.com/2007/11/bloody-monday-i.html
We came all the way back here to see Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia plus Vilinus and maybe Bulgaria...that had to be cut short last time, but all but Poland might get cut again...altho if i can heal quick enuf maybe not.
We will soon have to worry about snow & bad weather & it is a looooooong way back to Andalusia Spain where we winter in the sun!
Also planned egypt, jerusalem, jordan for oct but that will be postponed til spring again!
We will probably do Afica before SA, but SA comes before Asia etc.We plan to do Argentina first so hopefully it will work out!!

Re: A Year on the Road!
Mrsh09-
We have been traveling the world as a family- 4 continents, 30 countries, over 150,000 miles (most over land) going non-stop onto 4 years now and one of my greatest passions is to let others know that it is easier, cheaper & more enriching than most realize!
It is actually cheaper for us to travel the world than live at home ..& we have focused on "expensive" & history rich Europe!
We live really large on just 25K a year total costs for a family of 3 and could do it for a lot less if we did not love luxury.
Here are a couple posts to add to Nancy's bikers take on things. We travel mostly by RV but also rent a beautiful home every winter so far in sunny warm s Spain as well as some 5 star hotels from time to time. We also bike, take cargo ships, sail boats, trains, buses, mass transit, rental cars etc!
