Antarctica Packing Guide
I'm heading to Antarctica via Argentina in a few months. Any packing suggestions/tips? I have NO idea what I'll need for the cruise...

We are planning a trip as you are in the next year or so, I have heard to brace for wind as well as cold, covering for your face and hands.

I didn't book my cruise until I was in Ushuaia, so I just had a normal backpacker's kit. However, I was supplied with a big red parka and there were some extra rubber boots on board for the landings. The weather wasn't nearly as harsh as I expected to be. The only thing I regretted not having was a tuxedo.

We spoke with Donovan on this site for Antartica, the prices he offered seem to be somewhat less expensive than all I have seen elsewhere. Maybe djperry is right with booking right from Ushuaia. Donovan's tours leave out of there, as well. I guess a tux would be handy amidst the penquins.

I'm thinking I can just get away with buying some rubber boots and ski pants. Unfortunately, as a girl I would look pretty funny in a tux.
I've never been on a cruise, and I wouldn't go on this one if there were an alternative, so what's the onboard protocol? I'm sure it's different than the 5 day 4 night Bahamas nightmares where everyone dresses up in formals for dinner. I hope...
And what's the booze situation on the boat? Not that I have my priorities out of line or anything...

I wouldn't buy anything you have to lugg around elsewhere, especially if they provide parkas and rubber boots. Unless of course, you see need for a nifty pair of rubber boots down the line. If you are spending more time in Argentina outside of your cruise, summers are pretty hot in BsAs, and those rubber boots will be a rather heavy load.
