Antigua Guatemala

Postby chicagorilla » April 18th, 2008

Hey I'm planning to travel to Antigua Guatemala this summer to study Spanish for a month or so. I'm a college student and I was wondering if there is a school that might stand out from all the others in Antigua for someone like me. I've been doin my research and I've come across La Union and Ixchel, but does anyone else have any good suggestions about a school that might suit a college student?

There are many good schools in Antiqua. Go to three or four, pick one, and PAY BY THE WEEK even if you like the school after the first week.

You may not like your host family and if you don't, you can change families if you pay by the week. if you pay for say, 3 weeks, which is all I really recommend, They'll tell you they've already paid the host family, and you have to stay with them, or they COULD. If you pay a week at a time, you can walk away and you both know it, so you have more power over them.

For beginning spanish, its all about memorising basic verbs and language structure, a very memory intensive task, so most schools can do a good job, if they maintain high standards of sociability and group excursions, which are as educational as the lessons sometimes.
