Just letting you all know that we've posted details about our April Travel Blogging Competition on our Grantourismo site.

The second contest in our yearlong series of monthly travel blogging competitions requires entrants to create an inspiring blog post, consisting of 500 words of evocative travel writing and one compelling photograph.

Each month a different Grantourismo blog category will be announced for that contest and your blog post must fit into that category. The category for April is 'On The Road'. These posts cover the experience of travelling and being on the move, observations from the road, and reflections upon ‘the journey’. This month, there’s a further requirement: to coincide with our exciting announcement of a new partner, Rail Europe, your post must be about or reflect upon a train journey you’ve taken.

Prizes: FIRST PRIZES include, for UK ENTRANTS one pair of InterRail passes worth over UK£1,000, courtesy of Rail Europe, valid for 1 month of travel in 29 European countries, and for non-UK ENTRANTS a stay at a HomeAway Holiday-Rentals property of your choice anywhere in the world valued at UK£500 (US$750) and a Context tour voucher worth US$100; SECOND PRIZE is a Viator tour voucher worth £100/US$150; and THIRD PRIZE is an annual subscription to AFAR magazine. (Prizes change every month.)

Entries can be posted on BootsnAll - just let us know in the Comments box at the end of the post that your entry is up and leave your URL.

See the link above for more details.

Good luck!

Cool contest — we just posted our entry on Two Go Round-The-World:

Taking the train to Laos is a great option—not only to save money but also to see the countryside. It’s a relaxed way of travelling—board in Bangkok in the evening, sleep through the night and awake to majestic views in the morning light. Only the thin scar of the railroad breaks the landscape of jungle and sky. The passage is beautiful—and humbling—and I found myself smiling bemusedly at Graham Greene whose Lawless Roads I had just been reading before I looked out the train’s window.

To check out the rest of our story—and accompanying photo, check it out here!
