Hello there,
my boyfriend and me will be on Bali for a couple of days in August. We would like to travel around the island, avoiding crowded places, hotel resorts. What is a must to see, is it a good idea to rent a car or a scooter? Do we need an international driving licence?
Any suggestions or tips are much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello;
Kuta is madness personified IMHP.
If you want quiet, I would suggect a trip to Lovina Beach on the North Coast. You can take a bus from DPS to Singaraja and from there on to Lovina is about ten minutes. Dolphins play off the beach in the morning, the homestay rooms are inexpensive and there is a wide variety of resturants and food stalls. The area is large so you will not be around a lot of people.
Cheers

Rent a car or a scooter is a good idea to explore the local’s life style and tradition however you need international driving license. If it is your first trip so you must hire a guide thus it will be very costly.

Moreover, if you don’t have license so you can travel around through local transport. It is an inexpensive way to travel around and you don’t need to hire a guide. You can enjoy the trip yourself and easily find out the tourist interesting sites.

Here is more info about Bali’s local transport: http://home.mira.net/~wreid/bali_p2t.html

What do you mean by hiring a guide, if it is our first time?

It really depends on if you want a romantic get away or to see things.

The best places in Bali by a mile are the islands off of the coast. They are less hectic and developed and afford beautiful vistas and restaurents.

Below is some info on the best islands, Nusa Lembongan and Gili Trawangan. This will give you an idea of the best things you can do there.

I hope this helps :)

Hello Suryas....

Land of the Gods, that was what Bali has been called. There are many temples all over Bali. Ancient and fascinating view and locations. I visited Pura Uluwatu and, most tourist enjoyed the beautiful view of the Indian Ocean.

The west coast have a beautiful ranges of mountains covered in with snow as well as forests. It's a great idea to hire a vehicle as it helps you guys to see and feel everything closely. But the only problem is that you may be asked for international driving license.

With Regards,
Mack Bosh.
