I'm going to New Zealand for an extended period, so I'm definitely getting a BoA account.

Has anyone had any experience with Citibank while on the road?

I'd like to chime in also and suggest that everyone at least explore the credit union alternative before you sign onto the corporate mega-bank of your choice. I've been with my local credit union for a while now, but without ANY waiving of fees, I don't pay ANYTHING to withdraw money from overseas. This applies to any ATM that interacts with one of many systems - Cirrus being one of them. I was even able to find Cirrus ATM's in Bangladesh. There isn't even a McDonalds there! I also have a low interest credit card through them for any necessary cash advances from ANY bank anywhere. I am able to easily and effectively bank online through them (for free) and if something requires the personal touch, I call up the office and I get to talk to a real person who might even remember me from the last time I needed something. Especially when I'm traveling. "Oh, you're the one who's traveling around the world, huh?! Well, what can I do for you today?" Corporate banks never have you, the traveler and customer, in mind.

I just opened a HSBC savings account which is 5.1% interest I believe, which knocks the pants off my B of A savings account by far. It comes with a ATM card which is nice, but there's a page included with the card that says there's foreign transactions fees as well as ATM withdrawal fees (at non HSBC ATMs). I'll definitely be keeping my B of A checking account, it sounds like the credit union might be a good alternative to beating the ATM withdrawal fees. Do they charge a foreign currency conversion though?
