AIR
Virgin Blue and Jetstar/Qantas have some good deals to these places, check online.

COACH/bus
cheaper, but tiring and you waste a day.

TRAIN
would be more relaxing and take you to most of your destinations.

Bludge a ride with others who have a vehicle.

Buy or rent an old car, can be an experience.

Cheers

If you choose the public transport option I would suggest catching the train from Brisbane Central to Nerang Station. Then bus route no. 22 to Surfers Paradise.Trains depart every 30 minutes and are half price on weekends, they were when I was there .

Time table example : dep. Brisbane 9.56 arr. Nerang 11.03. Nerang Station bus departs 11.10 arr. Surfers Paradise 11.34am at Beach Road. On weekdays Bus Roster Number is 191,192 193 and 194. On Saturdays they are 491,492,493 and 494. Sundays are 791,792,793, and 794.

Website for buses is www.surfside.com.au

Alternatively, you could travel by bus departing Brisbane
at Coach Terminal Level 3 Roma Street Transit Centre. Ther is a bus departs 10.30am arriving Surfers at 12 noon. Fare is around AUD$22.00 for backpacker rate.

Surfers Paradise to Byron Bay using McCafferty's (Greyhound) Bus Lines. For example, depart Surfers at 12 noon , arrive Byron Bay at 14.15pm. Fare is AUD$27.00 backpacker rate.

From Byron Bay to Sydney I would suggest Countrylink. There is a daylight service and a night service, both cost the same. Having travelled on Countrylink several times , I would recommend the daylight service, more comfortable. Cost is AUD$66.00 adult, yoiu may be able to get a backpacker rate, I'm not sure.

Departs Byron Bay Transit Centre, 84 Jonson Street at 7.50am arrives Casino 9.50am. Depart Casino 10.10am arriving in Sydney at 21.54pm.

The night service departs Byron Bay 16.52pm, arrives Casino 18.26. Departs Casino 19.25pm arrives Sydney following morning at 7.08am.

Sorry, Cann't help with Barrington. Goog Luck!

Have a nice day, whistler.

I did the bus/coach thing last year and found it to be extremely convenient,a great value, and a great way to see the country side. AND... probably most importantly, it gave me a chance to recover some intense hangovers.

Jakeeo,

There is also a bus company where you can buy the ticket to get from Brisbane to Sydney, and stop off at different places along the way. It is called OZ Experience. Depending on how long you want to take, they usually sell tickets that are valid for travel for a certain number of days, more info in THIS THREAD and THIS LINK.

I've seen threads with various comments on it good and bad but I don't know from personal experience.

Good luck.

hey,

I'm not sure if they're still in existence, but I did an awesome overland tour called Ando's Outback tour from Byron Bay to Sydney. It was 4 or 5 days and takes you through the NSW outback. Very laid back, very fun and not touristy at all. Great for independent backpackers as well.

I also think buying a greyhound pass can work well if you have lots of time. Most hostels will pick you up at the bus stop, too.

Surfer's is SUPER touristy, be forewarned. Byron Bay is very hippie-ish and laid back. Good surfing, too, if you're into that.

How long do you have?
