Bhutan - Help

Figure out the best place to stay on Khao San Road in Bangkok and where to escape when you've had enough of the mayhem. From Singapore Slings to the changes in Bejing after the 2008 Olympics, gab about it all here.

Bhutan - Help

Postby vaahan » October 7th, 2009

I am planning a visit early November to Bhutan. I have an Indian passport so dont need to do the $200 a day thing. I have a whole month too. Any help on iten. suggestions will be appreciated! Also I'm wondering if anyone knows how the local transport/tours work outside the $200 day all incul. My partner is a 'foreigner' and cant afford the tarif :( so its just me. I think it is entirely safe for alone travel, but if anyone thinks otherwise pls do lmk. a

All I can say (as a foreigner subject to those crazy tariffs) is that I'm envious. If you're not getting any additional responses here, try checking over at Lonely Planet's Thorntree forum. I've found more information about Tibet over there, and the same may apply for Bhutan as well.

When you do get back home, be sure to post some information to Bootsnall about your experience getting around (basically answer your own questions) so people in the future can find it. :)

On our way out of Bhutan we met an Indian family making arrangements to do their own tour of Bhutan for a fraction of the cost (basically local rates) with an Indian company located in Jaigaon on the border with Phuntsholing. So, that's an option if your looking to hire car/driver. Although from what I've heard (obviously I didn't get to experience it) I don't think you'll have to many safety concerns and public transportation should be a pretty straightforward.
