Hello all!
I am a newbie to the site and am leaving in just three weeks on an 11-month RTW trip. I will be in SE Asia for about 5 weeks and am thinking about landing in Bangkok, going up through Norther Thailand, across through Laos, across into Vietnam and down through Vietnam, crossing into Cambodia and then crossing into Thailand again (of flying) back to Bangkok.
Some who have been there have mentioned that the border crossings on this trip might be impossible..esp toward the end. Suggestions or thoughts?

Northern Thailand to Laos - laos visa available on arrival
Laos to Vietnam - need a vietnam visa beforehand.
Vietnam to Cambodia- Cambodia visa is available on arrival too- check if it available on that particular border crossing (I did the reverse route thailand, laos, cambodia, vietnam)
for Laos and Cambodia visa, there is a surcharge of a dollar or so on weekends. (you need a passport photos for both)
also Cambodian officials normally ask for a dollar here and there tagging it as some random fee- a girl with me got around that by saying she doesn't have any change!!
you will have no issues at border crossings, lots of travelers do this everyday!

Hi! We are a family of 6, kids aged 4-12 and we're planning a round the world trip next year, which will include the exact route you're talking about with all the border crossings. Can't wait, I'm sure it will be fine (with more than a few dramas along the way!) When are you leaving?
