Discuss and debate travel gear: backpacks, boots, packing stuff and all things technical like phones, mp3 players, GPS systems and other techno-gadgets.

boys, you'll wanna skip over this one

Postby Mish » December 10th, 2005

hey girls,
mildy embarresing question: How easy is it to "take care of yourself" during your monthly visitor in India and like places? I'm not particularly attached to my first world lifestyle up here in Canada, but this is one area i must admit i'm picky about. I need some mind eezing of the experienced.

oh, and for the boys who (undoubtedly) ignored the subject warning, take a moment and appreciate the fact that you don't have to deal with things like this when travelling.

www.keeper.com

Not that I have personal experience with this, but it works well when you don't want to carry a lot and are worried about re-supply. One issue might be always having to use bottled water to clean it.

I know a couple of people that use or have used them and found it useful. See also Freshette for stand-up pee fun. A friend got one as a free sample and immediately went to find a men's room so that she could use the urinal. Popular with the female mountaineering crowd.

There are a few threads on here regarding periods while travelling.
Theres this one and this one. I think those are the two major ones.

I'm not equipped to test this myself... but I've been told that it's possible to take The Pill so that you don't have a period for a few months at a time. That might be enough time to bypass any problems. I suppose you'd have to ask your doctor about it.

Must say I'm impressed by the level of knowledge you guys have shown. It wasn't that long ago men were embarassed to even be seen buying pads in the store. And here you are discussing keepers and the pill. Cool.

I gotta recomend the keeper or diva cup (they are basically the same except the keeper is rubber and the diva cup is silicone.) I have a diva cup and it is fabulous, for travelling and home. Plus it saves a ton of money, cause tampons are expensive! Free access to menstral products should be a basic human right!

I use a mooncup from http://www.mooncup.co.uk. I've used it for about 5 years now, travelling or at home, and it's great. Better for your body, your finances and the environment - what more could you want?
