Hi
I've been traveling for over 5 months now and have visited these countries:
NZ, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, HK, Japan, S. Korea, China, Malaysia, UAE, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Greece, and now Turkey.
Usually I visit about 2 cities per country, I know I'm going pretty quick but there's a lot I want to see before I go back.
I've spent about $14k so far and had a great time. Now I'm about to enter Europe, and want to go to most of the countries in both East and West. Same thing, about 2-3 cities per country. Would I be able to live comfortably off $20k in Europe, for about 3 months? I know the west will be very expensive compared to where I've been so far. Also I will mostly use bus or train, but no rail pass (since I just turned 28).
Would it kill my budget to travel in the same style? I usually buy tickets 1-2 days before I leave.
Any insight?

Budget question

If my math's right, that's 240 USD/180 EUR per day. Don't see why you couldn't get by on that. If you could plan ahead just a bit --i.e. not waiting 1-2 days before leaving to buy a train ticket-- you'll probably find quite a few discounted fares that could save you a nice chunk of change.

I am leaving in July for an around the world trip with your 3-month budget, and I plan to make it last a year, with only a bit of work in the middle.
$20,000 is above the poverty level for a family of two for an entire year. It is WAY MORE THAN ENOUGH for 3 months in Europe.
Usually, I'd say take the average rate of the hostel dorm per night in a given country, and multiply by 3, and you will get a rough estimate of what you would need per day in the country.
