Figure out the best way to get from Central to South America, when you should book your accommodations for Carnaval and local language school recommendations. If it's on South America, it's in this forum.

I'll be in BA in early August and have a week to 10 days free. I'm looking for ideas on the best things to do there as well as short (1-2 day) trips one should take from the city.

Here's a couple of suggestions:

Tigre - Take the train (Linea Mitre or combination Linea Mitre with Tren de la Costa) to Tigre. Walk to the Estacion Fluvial and take a boat tour of the Parana delta.

Colonia Del Sacramento, Uruguay - Take the Buquebus ferry from the Puerto Madero area to this UNESCO World Heritage site. Lots of small museums for rainy days.

There are couple of places surrounding BA which you can enjoy going by rental car. The best place which is worth visiting is the Puerto Madero neighborhood.
