Camera Gear ? Batteries ?

Postby Joe Parisi » September 30th, 2009

Hi
Will be climbing in Jan 2010, plan on carrying a Nikon D300 & 12-24 wide angle and 18-200 zoom. Am concerened about battery failure near the top and on the sumit. Has this been a problem ? Will cary extra cards and batteries, will also take a point and shoot.
Thanks for your help

Just keep your batteries warm. In the sleeping bag with you at night and the spare battery near your skin during summit day.

If Jimmy Chin can ski down everest and snap a few pics with a D200 &18-200 along the way, I think you'll be fine on Kili :D

I just came back from Kilimanjaro a few weeks ago and it was an incredible experience! As the previous post mentioned, definitely keep your batteries (including headlamp batteries) in your sleeping bag at night. On summit night keep a spare battery in a ziploc bag to prevent condensation caused by your body. Also bring a cleaning kit for your camera and lenses. It's very very dry and dusty on the mountain!!

If you're interested, I posted my pics on flickr here:

Good luck!
