Hi guys,
I have recently adjusted my travel plans for 2 months in Europe from late December this year, to the more camping friendly months of March through May next year. Can anyone who has had experience in camping in Europe please post some feedback on the feasability of camping at this time of year? My wife and I will be hiring a car for the 2 months and have between 75-85 Euro per day, per person budget. Will this amply cover fuel, camping (hostels maybe 3 times a week), food, parking, tolls (happy to drive older motorways) and sight seeing?? We hope to see some sights (but also have down days), we do like to have a drink and socialise (but can compromise on store bought liquor) althought some nights out are essential. We would also like to dine out at least 2-3 times a week, nowhere fancy, just to experience each countries cousine. Aside from that we are happy to buy food and cook. Does anyone have any relevant information on driving that I may not have thought about?
Thanks guys for your help,
Sicerely, Newby

March to may is still a bit early for camping, I think. Not just because of the weather (at the moment it's snowing here), but also because many campsites won't be opened before may or june. I don't know if it's different in southern Europe, or where you're going.
I don't drive so can't help with costs.

Many campsites are open all year round ( even some in snowy areas) but many are closed too, so you should have a good plan on where you are going to be staying to make sure that they are open.
Weather is going to be a problem, especially in March and April. We camped last April in Seville which is pretty far south and it was raining and freezing. We camp in a small RV and have a heater, but camping is much less fun in cold and rain. ( There were people camping in tents though, even one right across from us with a young baby....so it can be done).
You might want to look into renting a van that you can sleep in instead of a car as that can save lots of money on lodging and you can cook most of your own food which is a big money saver.
When you eat out, try to do it at lunch time instead of dinner and that will save you some money. Splurge more in countries where it is cheaper ( like Prague is a good place for a big dinner splurge).
We spend much, MUCH less on budget than you are planning. A gps will make your life much easier. I would get Church's book on camping Europe as it is the best one.
You might want to look at our website as we have lots of info about camping in Europe and are always adding more.
If I were you, I would go for some kind of camper and start far south in Europe in March ( Portugal and Spain southern coasts) where it is warmest and there is lots to see. Then I would follow the weather ( it is easy to take a ferry with vehicle to from Barcelona to Rome). Hit the most northern things that you want to see in May.

Good luck and have fun!
