Gday all
Me and a mate (in mid 20s) are heading to Iceland/Denmark over Christmas/New years period (At this stage we are going to be in Iceland from 24-30 Dec, and Denmark from 30 Dec - 3rd Jan)
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go out in Iceland to meet people and have a few good drinks? Is that time of the year going to be worth going or is everyone going to be doing family stuff?
The dates between Iceland and Denmark are pretty flexible, where is better for new years?
Cheers!
(I know it is pretty expensive there - we are prepared for that!)
Can I get some Iceland/Denmark nightlife recommendations

Iceland is fabulous, didn't find Reykjavik very friendly though so prob best to go to some (even) smaller towns to meet the locals. Great bars in the capital, but very pricey. I imagine the bars will be very busy for New Year, but then I went in early summer. I have an Icelandic friend and she said people just tend to stay in drinking til about midnight so they're well oiled enough to face the cold and then they go out!
Denmark, I went to years ago so can't comment on the night life there, remember some coolish bars in Copenhagen - cheaper for a big night out.

I was in Denmark and Iceland in May/June. I went with a friend and we had done a lot of research but had the fodors guide for scandinavia with us and tried to go to a bar in Copenhagen that was highly recommended but turned out to have homeless people in front of it and was shut down. In general Fodors wasn't a great travel resource in our opinion, as this wasn't the only time Fodors let us to a comical incident like this.
Anyway, we ended up at Rosie McGees, which I would say was a 7 or 8 out of 10. It's right in the heart of town, but you could probably find better, but keep it in mind as a backup.
We met a girl there who worked at Oliver's in Reykjavik. So we went there when in town, and actually had a great time. My suggestion is that since most people in Iceland party from 1am to 5am if you get there around 11-12pm you avoid lines and crowds. Also, if you stay downtown make sure you plan to party all night b/c you won't be able to sleep until the clubs shut down anyway, if thats a problem - stay off the main strip. We stayed above what I believe was an asian Karaoke bar...it was torture.
Make your NYE plans in advance. go check out club/bar websites and see if you can buy tickets in advance...otherwise you might be left with nowhere to go.

Gday again!
Thanks for the info - the aim over there is pretty much party and enjoy the time off there, so the problem with staying right in the middle of Reykjavik is not really an issue!
On that note though - do you have any decent hotel reccomendations? Biggest requirement is to be really close to the main watering holes (ie pubs!)
How does new years in Denmark work? Is it more pre planned parties rather than just going out to pubs?
Cheers!
