Central America August 2009?!!

Postby Jeannine » December 22nd, 2008

Hello travel friends... Xmas1

I am looking for travel companions for my rtw tour starting this summer. i will be doing a yucatan tour in mexico checking out some local villages then heading to Central America and South America.

Any advice of travel info is appreciated. Also another question, I have heard of people having packs stolen under the bus and on top of the bus. Is it possible to have pack at my feet? I will give up my feet space to know my pack is safe. I will be leaving towards the Pacific I believe in mid Sept-Oct. from Brazil. Any takers or info makers?

One more question while I am at it... camera's. I am a photographer and do most image making under low light or at night. I have a great and clunky canon dslr but am strongly thinking against bringing it. What do you think?

Happy Holidays Xmas3
<br /> and thanks so much!

Travel light and keep your pack right by you if possible. As to camera's, it will be obsolete and snot worht much in a year or two, so take it. I always take a dslr, but I don't wear it over my neck but hang it on my shoulders and behind my arm, and also, I"m 6"2" and 220#, so that helps also.

I agree with packing light. See Onebag.com for suggestions.
The term "clunky" for your camera of choice says it all. Personally I would get the sort of regular and small digital camera that I do have, and you could keep it handy in a fanny pack under under your dominant arm, not your fanny.

If your pack is smallish like mine, you could place it inside in a rack above your head IF it is locked and you cable lock it to something solid. Also leave a strap dangling over to show it is not being bothered, like locals do. Packs placed under the bus are usually safe and I have not lost one from above, but doing either does make me feel uncomfortable.
