Ok, so I'm a European girl, and with airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet, you can move about Europe for a few pounds.

I'm going to be in North America next year and I've heard lots of stories about many cheap domestic Airlines, that I'd get a good deal for flying from LA to Fort Lauderdale.

So far, the cheapest (one-way) flight I've found is $120... but this seems a bit excessive to me. I thought the flights would be much cheaper. Can anyone find a flight for cheaper than that?

its true.. you just have to search a bit for them..i suggest going to the airlines websites and looking at their deals for domestic flights within the usa. and checking all the travel websites for deals also.. i have seen a one way ticket to la from PDX for like 89... just got to keep looking

I'm just struggling to find a good deal... so if anyone has any website info, recomendations etc , they woould be more than welcome!

That sounds about right to me for a one-way ticket from coast to coast, it is a heck of a long way. A couple of things to keep in mind: you are flying close to the 4th of July holiday (not that close but it might make a small difference), and you almost always pay more for a one-way than you would for half of a return ticket. But I certainly wouldn't be outraged by a ticket that price (does it include taxes?).

Southwest and Frontier are usually the cheapest airlines. I don't think Southwest has an agreement with Expedia so try their website directly.

And remember, you're getting a discount when you exchange pounds for our pathetic currency

Man...am I the only one on here who thinks $120 is reasonable?!? I guess one can certainly find cheaper tickets, like if you take the red-eye flights or if you have lots of layovers and switch planes multiple times...but at least in my experience $120 is a great deal. My tickets seem to always average around $210-240, but then I'm not punishing myself either, and am flying during reasonable hours and such.

I'm sure if you searched more, though, you could find a flight less than $120.

I actually can't believe you can get that ticket for $120! Coincedentally enough, I just booked a FLL to LAX one-way for mid December and was shocked that it was only $147. Actually, I could have gotten it for $99 if I had booked a couple days earlier, but airfares have never been this low in history, especially one-way.

I'm flying American Airlines and the only reason it's that low is that they are now competing with Jet Blue and a couple others for those routes. On routes where those others don't fly it's much more expensive.

Also, Ft. Lauderdale to Los Angeles is about 100 miles further than Stockholm to Lisbon. How much does it cost to go between those cities? I'll be in Europe in a couple months so I'm looking forward to those ultra-low fares there.

Check Southwest Airlines. Their rates are usually pretty reasonable but you have to go directly to their website. As someone else mentioned, SWA does not cooperate with the likes of Expedia and Orbitz. Also stay far, far away from ATA, another discount airline here in the US. For starters, they've just gone bankrupt and it's unknown if and when all service will be discontinued. Secondly, and most importantly, the service flat out sucks. I wouldn't fly ATA ever again even if it were free.

And 120 is a damn good fare

$120 aint bad. Sorry, US is a big friggin place and our airfare pricing system is whacky. (Is it more logical elsewhere? Less random and changing by the minute?)

Plus, it is useless to look for a "deal" that far out in advance. You might find one....but you might get a better price shopping two days before your flight. Or in April. Or.....????

It really is impossible to know. One thing I do know is: You can SPEND YOUR ENTIRE LIFE shopping the internet to "save" $20 US on an airfare.

Good shopping thoughts: travel mid-week on low-fare carriers and be willing to do a red-eye if you really want to save buckaroos.

$120.00 is a really good fare. By the way, Southwest is not always the lowest priced airline. For some reason, many people think that it is. By the way, Southwest does not put their fares and flight schedules in the computers way in advance like other airlines. Right now they are only booking through April 1st and their one way fare is much higher than 120.00

There is no way that flights in the us are going to compare in price to those in europe... on ryan air and others.

keep checking... and check southwest. remember, most of their flights don't go into the major airports, but rather suburban ones... this makes them cheaper, but often more inconvenient for travelers.

Be glad you're not flying in Canada! Our fares are higher, thanks to the taxes (damn you taxes).

I agree that you should try Travel Cuts as tiff suggested. You don't need to be a student. Can you somehow get yourself an ISIC card? My experience has been that TravelCuts always has the cheapest fares, whether domestically or international. My American friends also use TravelCuts, so it's not just a Canada thing.
