Cheap & Free City Guide: Manila

Figure out the best place to stay on Khao San Road in Bangkok and where to escape when you've had enough of the mayhem. From Singapore Slings to the changes in Bejing after the 2008 Olympics, gab about it all here.

Valentine's Weekend for the Dateless: a Jokefest
Saturday, January 16
8 pm
Club Intramuros
(located on Bonifacio Drive, in Intramuros)
Cover fee: P150

This is a comedy sketch fundraiser for the excellent group Youthtrip, which organizes young Filipinos to learn more about their heritage, partly through travel/tours with a domestic bent. Specifically it is a fundraiser for "Yayain si Yaya Day", a project to fund a trip to Museo Pambata for Pinoy history, storytelling + games for yayas (Filipina nannies) and the kids they take care of.

For more info, directions, etc, you can call 0918-521-1087, or email youthtrip@gmail.com.

Sounds like fun.

Best Filipino Restaurant in Manila: Barrio Fiesta and Aristocrat. If you want to try out some of the local delicacies, try Barrio Fiesta and order their Crispy Pata. Aristocrat is also famous for their Chicken Barbecue and the gummy yummy "Mechado".
