Just returned from Davao Philippines.
2 dives a day, all equipment rental. $24.00 total! That includes the cost of the boat.

Wow! That's a great price!
The cheapest diving I've ever done was in Thailand on Kho Tao and I think I got 2 dives for like 700 bhat and this was 5 years ago so it was like $15 or $20, nowadays I think it's around $30 or $40.
What is the best dive season over there?

One should be a little careful about those really cheap options. If the equipment is not up to par you could be looking at an unnecessarily dangerous situation.

Double check all your dive kit is in good working order before you get on board.
Some of those cheaper outfitters dont maintain their gear very well.

maybe its me, but "cheap" scuba diving just seems downright scary. do they have the same requirements, regulations that we have (or any for that matter). guess theres worse things than dying in the beautiful waters off the coast of thailand

You guys gotta remember that whole exchange rate thing. Meaning that what it costs in local currency versus what it translates into your currency might mean it's not cheap.
My cheap diving in Thailand was with great gear that was well taken care of. Because $20usd is alot more over there than it is here, so, it was cheap for me but it wasn't cheap, get it.
Some of the most expensive diving I've ever done was the shotiest. Got a bad instructor, a careless boat driver and a bad tank of air, not to mention the dang instructor was horrible at timing safety stops. 2 out of the 4 of us puked. And that cost me $120usd.
I'd have much rather done 6 dives with the cheap $20 place then 1 of the expensive dives.

I'm hoping to do my PADI Open Water course whilst in Thailand. It will certainly be cheaper to do it there than in Australia or the Galapagos Islands (the two other places I plan to dive during my rtw trip).
