Bali is a beautiful place on our planet, you can survive pretty well on a very small budget. The Cost of Living here is dramatically lower than in the US, old Europe or even other parts in Asia. Living in Bali for the past 18 months and to put that in a better perspective; I compiled a spreadsheet with day-2-day items and put some real life prices behind it.

One thing on your list caught my eye
cost of petrol .49 USD per litre
according to my calculations one gallon of gas in bali is ONLY 1.73 USD!
that is incredible...i'm paying double that in America

Yep, that's about right.
But keep in mind, that in Indonesia gas is subsidized. The government is trying to reduce that, although they weren't successful with that idea yet. Just the mentioning of it brings regularly hundred thousands of people protesting to the streets.
They raised last week some rare premium gas (pertamax) though, but the majority of vehicles runs here with the standard mix, which is really that cheap!
