Hi all! Next year on my RTW trip I will be hitting South America. I am going to travel through Peru and Argentina. I am looking to possibly hit one more country while in SA. Currently eyeballing Ecuador, Colombia and Chile as a possible third.
If you were to point me towards another country in SA, what would it be and why?
Look forward to the responses!
Chris

Lots of people rave about Colombia but personally I wasn't impressed. I preferred Ecuador. Haven't been to Chile.

What do you like to do? I agree with EMH on Ecuador. For a small country it has it all and you'll spend less time on buses. If you are really into cities you may like Colombia's athmosphere better.

Nice - two votes for Ecuador! My brother actually just got back from there and the Galapagos not too long ago. He said it was easily the best experience of his life. When I asked him this same thread question, he told me the top three in his research were Columbia, Ecuador, and Argentina with Chile being a close 4th. So many cool choices.
Appreciate it you two!

I just got back fro my 2nd trip to Ecuador. It is a fantastic country, so easy to get around and just amazing diversity.
However if I had to vote, my order would be this:
Colombia
Ecuador
Peru.
Colombia is just wonderful. Beautiful, friendly people, incredible beaches, Cartagena, my favorite city anywhere, Coffee Zone, great, great country!

Chile seems to me to feel more European than South American. I would like to have seen more of Bolivia when I was there, I think there are hidden gems there.

I spent 3 weeks in Ecuador over the Christmas holidays and I was ready to learn Spanish and move there. I LOVED that country. I am considering retiring there but that won't be for another 20 years....

Bolivia! Highlight of my last trip. You could cross through on your way between Argentina and Peru. Chile is not as interesting, in my opinion.

Hi all,
I've been living in Colombia since October, and have been overwhelmed by the friendliness of the people, the diversity in landscape, and the quality of life in Colombia. So much so, that I've started writing about the country for others to discover for themselves.
Thanks,
Brice

I've been living in Buenos Aires for the past 3+ years (on and off traveling around) and Argentina really has it all, especially if you like the outdoors. Mendoza near the Andes, Salta and Jujuy in the north, then Bariloche, Patagonia, and Calafate in the south.
Chile I thought was nothing special, seemed like a C+ version of Argentina.
The only place I've been to in Brazil is Rio but it is one of my favorite cities anywhere. Incredible atmosphere, friendly people, great food, and the beach and scenery are amazing. I had some of that acai with honey and granola daily.
