Hey guys, ill find myself in central america for an extended period of time. I have been considering going to Cuba while there, but have yet to make up my mind.

If i went, i would like to go for about a month or so, the only thing that is holding me back is budgetary concerns. I've asked around and most people give me figures of 55-75 cuc/day. Staying in casas, not hotels.

Not reay budget travel....

My main interest though is in visiting thr southern portion of the island; think gibara, bayamo, baracoa.

Could I expect my daily costs to be lower travelling in those areas?

I have read that due to taxes imposed upon casa owners the price per night will, generally, always be 25 cuc and up.

Anyone have any info that may be of relevence. Thanks.

I spent Jan/Feb 09 in Cuba staying in casasfrom Havana to Vinales to Baracoa averaged $65/day, if you're looking for cheap go to SE Asia.
