DIY SWF Mozambique to Tanzania

Postby angeoz » February 26th, 2009

Hi, I am an adventurous 25 yo British female planning to travel from Durban through Mozambique and Malawi to Tanzania and Kenya. Will be getting tours when in game parks but what do you think about travelling alone through these places? Is local transport and cheap accommodation easy enough? Are other travellers often willing to join up? I have been on tours before and would like to create my own experiences rather than the 'manufactured' white tourist experiences tours can often give you. My real desires are to do lots of hiking, which is probably a bit too risky alone. Are there sites where hikers/campers/companions can join up? Also does anyone have experiences or ideas about conservation/volunteer that doesnt cost thousands $?

Hi Helena,

Depending on your "custom-made" itenary and how well you stick to basic personal-safety precautions, even travelling alone can be a rewarding experience, though a little more demanding as an individual especially given the fact that you have to look after yourself and yet take care of basic trip necessities and arrangements.

Depending on how honed your Africa street skills are, yes, both local transport and cheap accommodation are relatively easy.

Wish you a safe and rewarding trip.
