Do you use a Global Tipping Guide?

Hi guys,

Please let me introduce myself first. I am the developer of the Global Tipping Guide app for Android, which is currently on Google Play Store. As I am aiming to make this app better, I would like to ask my fellow travelers how you normally find out how much you should tip when you travel to a particular country?

Do you simply google it, do you ask the locals or do you simply ask your friends who have traveled to that country before ?

If there is a tipping guide, do you normally use it or do you think that it's not that helpful?

I would really appreciate if you would be so kind to share with me your opinions on this.

For what it's worth; I usually just research it before I go - wikitravel or LP or just plain old googling.

Obviously if I'm longer a longer trip I might not always be able to plan for this, in which case I'll probably either ask somewhere at my hostel or else just default to tipping 10%.

I don't tend to use my phone when I'm abroad due to data being so expensive but that said, with the preponderance of free wifi these days, that's probably not so much of an issue.

I can see that an app might be useful but you'd want to make it seriously user friendly - it would have to be simpler than googling for me to bother...
