Hello!
I'm from Vancouver, Canada, and I would like to get out of here during the Olympics. Therefore, I am looking into visiting the DR during February (15-26th). Is this a good time to visit?
In particular, I would like to do scuba diving. What is the visibility like? where is the best place to dive? how expensive is it?
More general questions:
- other than scuba diving, what are the best things to do/see?
- what is a good idea of a budget (for an independent backpacker)?
- is it easy to find hostels/cheap accomodations?
- what am I looking at for flight costs? where do you book?
Thank you so much for any info!

There's some basic information and some decent articles about the DR on BnA's Caribbean Guide. You might also consider PM'ing jules as she spent some time there. Here's her baseball article.
