I've been traveling all 55 years of my life, and much of that has been by plane. So I wonder, why after all these years does air turbulence now bother me?
I have become a "white-knuckle" flyer when for decades I was flying fine.
Is this a part of aging? Has this happened to any of you ?

However after my return from Phnom Penh to El Salvador, in Sept with a stopover in Honolulu & a transit through LAX where Homeland Stupidities Fascist, rent-a-cop goon squad, the TSA, subjected me to the NUDE scan, I shall NEVER fly through another US airport again

I'm the other way, on my first flight I had bad turbulence, the plane dropped many feet and everyone was terrified. After this for years I took Valium to fly, tried having a drink but felt sick.
Since retiring I'm flown thousands of miles, in our first years we did a rtw 12 month trip and did almost 50,000. I still hate flying and get nervous just before but don't take pills.
I have a routine I listen to music to start with and then read.
In fact I fly tomorrow Friday from Heathrow for a 3 month trip with 8 flights.

I am thankful for the TSA, they are keeping us safe. Don't blame the police and security, blame the stupid terrorists. It's their fault we have to go through all of this.

I haven't ever had a "white knuckle" experience on a plane b/c of weather or techno-malfunction, but rather from seatmates when i travel on my own.
I seem to attract my share of drunks and "characters", the result being i only sit on the aisle now so i can get away.
Last flight, i was stuck in a row (middle seat empty) with a guy who was hopped up on something, listening to music with no headphones and looking at porn. PORN!
on his laptop.
True story.

Nyphil, are you serious??? HSA, TSA is all a bunch of crap. The terrorists are running the USA. Stop being part of the sheeple.

On my first flight, the plane hit some major turbulence. It would suddenly drop a thousand feet, then struggle back up only to fall again. Since then I've never had a flight as bad as that first one. I just tell myself if the first flight got there O.K. then this one will too. Try talking to yourself. It's still safer than the ride to the airport.

it's easy to say you are comfortable with a litle turbulence until you get into a lot of it and it is violent and then I'm definetly not a happy camper, particularly if i'm the one flying in a little plane with just one of my friends as a pilot, non of whom are all that good and we are out in the middle of nowhere. Since one of my friends has crashed three planes, I know it can happen.
