hey all--
is anyone familiar with the volunteer organization projects abroad? it's the only one i've found that had a program for aspiring midwives, and the only country they offer *that* is india. i was hoping to find people that have been there/used that org/could offer up some experience of their own; i haven't yet been to an underdeveloped country, and from what i've heard, india isn't exactly the best place to start off. anyone want to share? |

I went to Senegal with Projects Abroad this past summer. I had a fantastic time because... well, it was Senegal, but the program itself, in my opinion, wasn't ideal. It probably varies a lot depending on which country administration you're working under, but at least in Senegal, it was extremely volunteer-centered and we were being encouraged to spend far more time with other Americans/Canadians/etc than with our host families.

I went to Nepal with Projects Abroad i loved the country and i loved the program. One of my fellow volunteers volunteered in India, i visit him afterwards in this place called Sivakasi in the south of India, he was doing a care placement and he seemed very happy, he was living at the orphanage with all the kids. India is a very different place compared to our western world, but i guess that's what makes it so incredible!.
