I am a Canadian, working for the JET Programme ( an exchange program with Japan - sanctioned by the Japanese and Canadian Embassy and Governments ). The JET Programme is open to American and European citizens as well.
This is my first time working abroad, but I have lived abroad all my life. My parents are both expats and have been living in other countries since the 1970s. My parents had working contracts in Japan during the 1970s for 5 years. My mom set up her medical practice in Limassol, Cyprus for 10 years while my dad was working for the biggest cruiseliner and shipping company. All my uncles are engineers, working in Dubai, Jordan and Bahrain. I guess, it runs in my family to work abroad and have a great network of relatives who are all expats.
Working and living abroad is what really defines me. I can`t name one country as ` home `. I have traveled to many countries ( Egypt, Israel, Greece, Jordan, Dubai, Bahrain, Poland, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Malaysia, New Zealand )...and the list will continue to expand in 1 and a half years, once I am done with the JET programme.
` Travel is the cure to bigotry and all forms of narrow-mindedness `.
