Just over a year ago I spent a month teaching English in Peru and had a great time. I've been planning a trip for this year but so far it's just for fun and not for any particular reason - I watched a program on TV tonight about refugee Iraqi children and it really touched a nerve in me again. So I was wondering....
Does anyone know of any volunteer organisations that they would recommend? No geographical preference... I'm not looking to pay £2000 for a two week stint and I personally think the type of organisations offering that sort of thing defeat the whole point of it - I want to offer my time not my money. From past experience the local organisations that will stick you in with a family and really let you 'get amongst it' are hard to find buried under the mountain of organisations aimed at rich US business people with the right idea, but only two weeks holiday time and a wallet full of money. That sounded a bit ranty hehe - sorry, it's an honest question! We're all the same but no one really thinks so. |
