Knows What a Schengen Visa Is |
Korea is a GREAT place to start a career in Teaching English Overseas. It is, in fact, where I go when I need to supplement the savings accounts, pay off loan/mortgages, and just get ahead of the money game.
Margolee is right too that the "smaller cities" (300,000!) in Korea are the place to be. I just spent three years in Chungju (only 220,000 people) - and loved it. No traffic problems, clean air, nice people - but only 90 minutes by bus from Seoul's advantages. |

Hiya! Margolee, does your school require a license or degree?

To work legally as an EFL teacher in Korea, you will need a degree - and a passport from what they consider to be an "English Speaking" country.

South African Trekking the World |
Hey All
Yeah Korea is a great place to start out teaching. I went for 11mths and stayed for 3 yrs. I lived in Seoul and must admit even though I had wanted a small city, Seoul was great. The transport is very easy and you have everything you need, then you can go to the country for long weekends. If you have any questions about teaching there, feel free to ask. Carbon Based Life Form |
I'm teaching at a Korean school here in the Philippines, and my Korean students want me to move to Korea and teach. Frankly, it sounds like a hassle for my personal situation. Also, I love my students, but in class I have 8 students at the most. I might have 4 classes at day, but 8 students at the most. I doubt that would be the situation there.
We have discussions about everything and I've learned some things about Korea that make me uncomfortable. For example, I get the impression that it's one big highschool. People seem to be shallow. I grew up in a small town and hated aspects of that, and the dynamics to this small country seem similar. They seem really focused on externals, I don't like to be pressured and scrutinized. I'm as free as a bird in the Philippines. However, it's an experience in another country and... enough said there. Also there are many of my students that are a breath of fresh air. Knowing them made me consider it in the first place. The money is good (for TEFL teaching. Seoul sounds awesome. So, it's hard for me to decide. There are other personal matters that I don't care to display. Also, Korea is not an English speaking country like it is here. I'd have trouble getting business taken care of, I think. Compared to here, anyway. I'm scared. Hold me. |
