Hi all! I'm looking to teach English in Japan for 6 months if possible. Interac looks like a decent bet, but I'd like to get input from anyone who's had experience with them. Also, does anyone know of any other programs that do 6 months?

I don't have any personal experience with Interac, but I do have the same kind of job (assistant language teacher in a public junior/senior high school) that Interac sets people up with. I like my job, and I think that working in a public school gives me a really interesting window into Japanese culture that I wouldn't get to see otherwise. So I recommend it!

The two people I've known who've worked for Interac have definitely had complaints about the company (one person wasn't warned about a very expensive housing deposit she had to pay, and the other had more general complaints about the job.) Both people broke their contracts early and found better jobs directly through schools. But Interac is a big company, and very reputable, and especially if you're only wanting short-term work, could be a good choice for you.

One other company that I've heard of offering short-term work is Westgate, and the people I've met who worked for them seemed to like their jobs.

Good luck with your decision.
