Knows What a Schengen Visa Is

OK, ideal situation. Actually there are a couple. The other, different: I thought of working for an airline, doing maybe public relations. If I can work in Europe that'd be even better, but would I get paid in European currency? Plus, I think if you work for an airline you get travel perks. Anyone know?
Now that I gotta work, might as well be something meaningful!

Wouldn't you rather get paid in Euros?? The rate is still hovering at about US$1.35 per Euro. So you're basically making 35% more than you would getting paid in the now extremely weak US Dollar...

Working for an airline can be great; but if you work on the ground you don't get as much time off as the cabin crew. It might be different in Europe as they tend to have more time off than thier US counterparts. One of the major benefits of working for an airline are the travel perks, but it is not always as easy to get on an airplane. You are space available and go in senioity order. So if you are the new guy, you are low man on the totem pole. If you are adventurous (which I'm sure you are!!) I would go for it!! It gets addicting!!

I meant, yeah I'd prefer to be paid in Euros. I don't want to be a flight attendant, but maybe they need public relations people, whatever. I'm thinking of living and working in Europe for a year, very seriously. So, pondering my options.

I dont want to be a flight attendant either, but I would like to be a reservation or ticket agent. Since 9/11 I know they probably do fbi, cia, nsa, and every other kind of backround check they can possibly think of. Not to tell all my business, but back in '96 I got caught with an ounce of weed. And was convicted of "manufacturing and distribution of marijuana" (felony). Although, of course I wasnt manufacturing it, but thats what they said. Is there any chance I could get hired at an airlines?? Also, I had a DUI in 2006. Frown

Honestly, the DUI may hurt you more than the marijuana charge. Had you been convicted of simple possession you'd be better off, but, in any case, you're talking about an 11 year old conviction. You'd probably still pass security vetting.

The DUI, however, might hurt you with the airline itself. The offense, combined with the prior conviction, might be construed as a pattern of recklessness. (I'm not making a moral judgment here, myself. I'm just telling you what HR will be looking at.)

Still, there's no harm in giving it a shot. If you can get past the application filters, and into an interview, your personality might make up for past indiscretions.

i work for an airline. ive worked for two.

perks are great, FREE FLIGHTS. thats the only reason i work for the airline industry cuz the pay is absolute shit.

good things:
free flights
you can trade your entire shift away and still be employed
you get flight benefits on almost every other airline
i just bought a roundtrip tik to india for $500
first class upgrades...oooh
hotel and rental car discounts

bad things:
low pay
stressful job-if you cant hack it, dont do it!
work any shift including holidays
stupid uniforms unless u work in a call center
flying standy - stranded in airports for days

"Hope for the best,
Prepare for the worst,
And take what comes."
