Hi Everyone, I am intersted in teaching english abroad (specifically japan, korea or china) but am not sure I am willing to commit for an entire year.

Can anyone recomend a short term program (3-6 months) that will still offer room and board?

So far the only program I have found is C.H.I. Has anyone had any experience with this oragization?

Thanks!

I live in Thailand - and many people work for less than a year in Bangkok - and also in the outlying areas. Not a problem at all here.

I'm curious about this as well, mostly as a method to finance other travel. I know most Japanese ESL schools have a one-year contract, but that depends. The popular government JET program is also one year in duration as a minimum, but can go longer if desired.

Westgate is a company in Japan that offers roughly 3 month contracts. You supposedly teach univ. Might be a good way to get a flavor of Japan though.

There are also several summer camps in China and Korea, probably many other countries that will provide shorter contracts.

Check out http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/ Great resource.

can you really get a 3 month contract with westgate? i was looking at their webpage and they say something about 240 days you have to work... "Instructors shall be available to work for Westgate for 240 days within any given one year period." the website says. Is there perhaps a shorter option that I couldn't find? I'd love to know! Thanks!

Hi,

A friend of mine is teaching in Japan through a company called Interac. She has a 6-month contract with them. Sometimes I see ads for even shorter-term teaching contracts with Interac--I don't know, but I always assume that whoever they originally got for the job bailed, and they need a replacement fast--sometimes the pay is higher, too. www.gaijinpot.com is good for jobs in Japan.

I am in a similar position as the original poster, with a leaning towards Japan. This Interac Company sounds interesting...does anyone have first hand experience with them? I went to their site and I couldn't find any info on what regions you end up teaching at ( I would like to be in Tokyo). Are there any other good companies out there?
