Hey all! This is the first time I'm posting, so please bear with me. Dunno if my concern is a repeat or far-fetched. Smile

Well here goes: I'm not just Asian, I'm really from the Philippines and was wondering if I can live and work abroad. My dream is New York! Is it possible? Given that there's a financial crisis there and haven't had any work experience in the US, plus given that the peso, thus my limited savings, ain't no match to the dollar. The only thing going for me is that I already have a visa, and my optimism. And even if it is slightly remotely possible, how would I go about it?

Please help. Need to know if I can pull this through. Smile

What kind of visa do you have. If its a tourist visa then you are "legally" NOT allowed to work in the US. This means any work you do will be under the table and potencially grouwnds for deportation. Its a risk you must be willing to take.

If you have a Visa which allows you to work then it all depends on what your qualifications are and what/who you know that can get your foot into a door of a comany. Once you are in then you work your way up.

I think your best bet is waiting tables...bartending...and if you have a work visa maybe retail...there are so many stores and restaurants in NYC that it would be possible...

ur real problem is not work but where are you going to live? Rent is so expensive in NYC it is scary, especially manhattan...I mean even hostels aren't that cheap, and not sure how long you can live in those...

India, UAE, Africa next, follow me! I'm 24, why isn't 100 countries and 7 continents realistic in a lifetime...33 and 4 down...39 or 40 and 5 by end of year
