anyone have any experience with hostel startup? its kind of been a dream for a few years or so and i am beginning to think more and more seriously about acting on it.. if you have any thoughts, wisdom, ideas, input (negative or otherwise)-- please share.

also... currently doing the corporate gig in the supply chain area-- mainly like strategic sourcing stuff. i was interested to know if any of you have any interesting thoughts about job searching in that area-- sites (outside of the real obvious ones), ideas for various jobs in this area of business, thoughts, inspiration-- anything really.

im kind of at a stumbling block with things and trying to cultivate some new work options or consider making the jump to starting a hostel. share your thoughts. thanks

I've got similar dream -- to open a hostel with an English school attached. I started looking into things, but before I got very far, life got busy and things got sort of sidetracked.

Location-wise, I'm thinking of the Finger Lakes region of NY State. The idea is that the students study part of the day, then go out on excursions to practice, etc. The place would work as a regular hostel, open to regular backpackers, etc.

Have you learned anything of use thus far? Are you interested in a joint-venture?

Hey Filup,

I don't have any advice for you in starting up a hostel, but it is something I really want to do too. I'm in Chicago too,so if you ever go through with the idea, let me know. I'd be very interested in being involved!

There's a yahoo group about this:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StartAHostel/

At least one member has actually started multiple hostels, but there haven't been a lot of postings lately.

I'm the moderator for that group and just made the archives viewable. This way anyone can read them, they only need membership if they want to post.
