... and you'll never work another day in your life."
Everyone know that famous saying? Yeah, well I think it's pretty clear that we all love to travel on this, but since this is the Corporate Wasteland section, a good majority of people aren't traveling and are working instead. OK - here's my quick rundown. I currently work in real estate finance and know I have some rather marketable skills. But, I'm tired of living in Chicago. And I want to move and be able to travel more. So I started thinking that working in London would be great (Europeans get SO much more vacation time and seem to be more laid back in general about working). But finding a job in London as a foreigner is proving to be rather difficult. So then I've been thinking about moving to Seattle/San Francisco/Portland, so if anyone knows of any jobs, I'd be so grateful. But the crux is, does anyone have any advice on switching careers? Having traveled through SE Asia, I developed such a fondness for that part of the world and would love to be involved in a microfinance or international development firm/bank. Does anyone know of any opportunities? Plus, I think I'd get to travel a good bit that way... Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys! |

Just a note on the "more vacation time" thing. It may be true of some parts of Europe but certainly NOT England. We have one of the lowest amount of public holdays in Europe (not sure how it compares to the rest of the world) and generaly 4 weeks (20 days) a year annual leave.
Other parts of Europe far outway us in vacation but here in Engand its work, work work...unfortunately. |

LondonCard2,
4 weeks is twice as much as my 2 so it sounds great to me! You need to work somewhere about 12 yrs to get 4 weeks off around here. If you're lucky. PC |

In US, the average is around 10 public holidays, and two weeks vacation after a year of work.
Photochick kids you not...4 weeks vacation is unheard of. ************************* "dry and brittle does no good for dreams of fields in passioned hues. and to bring you to this place I'm at brings me no closer to you..." -The temptation to pick wildflowers- |

I get 7 days for public holidays, plus 3 personal holidays. I have 10 days vacation, which goes up to 12 this year, as I have 2 years tenure now. I used all 10 days at once this last year to go to asia.
so depressing. |
