Armchair Traveler |
Ok so i been planning to move to NYC for ages. But i wanted to have a job before i get there. Anyway last week i applied a job from NYC cragslist for a nonprofit organization. Their website was www.jobsthatmatter.com. Anyway they say they are nonprofit organization and they work for environment issues and human rights issues. SO they called me yesterday and today they had a phone interview with me. Anyway..so they hired me for a summer position. Even tho i was looking for Full time job with benefits. But anything is better than nothing.
Ok so here is my question. Have anybody ever heard about them before? Are they bogus or real organization? thanks guys |

Have you really never heard of Greenpeace? Wow, lucky you.
Greenpeace is a legit organization and I believe I've heard of the website you linked to above. I'm not well versed in nonprofits but there are certainly people on these boards who are. I do know a couple things... It is generally much more difficult to get as well paid a job in nonprofit vs for profit corporations. They tend to require alot of work for less recompense. Usually this works out to being worthy because you believe in what you are doing and also tend to be in a good position to network for future jobs. Basically, you better really believe in what you are doing. Saying that, I'd never work for Greenpeace or PETA. As liberal a bunny hugger as I am I have big issues with how they run their organizations. So my advice to you is to really look into who you'll be working for, it could be a dream come true or merely something you're stuck doing until you find something better. ------------------------------ Soylent Green is lab chickens! |

I am shocked that you never heard of greenpeace. You must be younger. If you google them you will find them everywhere. They are pretty tough in their beliefs but I am glad we have them, they keep a lot of people in line even if they don't do it the right way. In these days, it doesn't seem like any large organizations do things the right ways, so i'm at least happy when they're fighting for the right things. Try googling you new job and see what pops up. What type of position are they giving you? If it has something to do with sales maybe it's a Sierra Club type position (door to door) which you will prob. tire of quickly, esp. in NYC.

Greenpeace is huge. lol
Ranni, you still didnt move? Most people arent going to hire you, if you're not local or cant get an interview (nonprofits not withstanding). Your best bet would be to save enough to survive for a few months, and just do it. formerly jjdpallday |
