Hey there,

I am a former 9 to 5 corporate type (CPA). It didn't take me long to realize that 40 years of "the grind" does not sound like a good time!! I have since ventured out to do my own thing, and am excited about the possibilities (especially in travel).

Use this board to help plan your next trip, getaway...or to simply have a laugh (during work hours of course!)

Happy Travels!!

Well today, is my first time here on this board I mean. I am at work it has taken me two weeks of at least 5 hours a day on the internet, whilst at work. You have probably realised that my day is rather boring. I look at travel site after travel site, and this truly is a good one. You whomever you people are. are doing a great job and this is all a great idea.

I've been at work for 3 hours now, drunk 6 cups of coffee, smoked 8 cigarettes, and have yet do do a single work-related activity! This is depressing. I'm sure if I could engage my brain, I could think of something to do, but it seems like a lot of effort. On the other hand, I'm taking the wench & kiddie to Durban for a week next week, at company expense, so it's not all bad. Anybody got any ideas for a profitable way of filling my time?

Hi William
I've been at work for 2 hours and managed 2 bags of crisps, a Twix and I'm half way through a can of Diet Coke. After 3 years of 9 to 5 hell I can stay on the internet all day without getting busted - comes with practice. I'm off for a cig in a few minutes to ease the boredom. I'm from the UK, Newcastle, and this morning a 6 I was awoken by the rain hammering down on the top of our truck (I live in a truck). Welcome to the North East of England. It's dark and it isn't even lunch time.
Anyway, come Friday 20th - 3 days left!! - I'll be leaving. I've handed in my notice and me and my boyfriend are off to a festival for 2 weeks then we're off to India for 3 months. Ditch the job, become a full time traveller, get your own truck and don't let your life me ruled by a job!!!!
In corporate style - "Just do it" !!!

Afternoon William,
It's nearly 3 over here and I still haven't done anything. I have moved on to a bottle of Lilt however and I think I've just about made myself sick with tobacco! I understand what you're on about - when I'm away at this festival it'll be a year since I left my husband. I was stuck with a mortgage, 2 Bullmastiffs, 2 cats and bugger all chance of being able to get away. Someones renting my house now, my boyfriend lives on the road in his truck and now I've joined him. If you want it, it'll happen eventually mate - chin up! Think of the skydiving....did it 2 year ago and loved it.

Never really got caught up in the corporate world. Spent ten years in the military and sort of fell out and let my hair grow long. Hard to live as a traveler in the US though.

I tried it in San Francisco, but the mayor started a new program to harras the homeless. Homeless? I thought of myself as a home-owner. Since I know how to fix cars I was able to buy an RV from some heroine addicts for $600. It was a sight better than the hell-whole I lived in in the East Village of New York city. I had a stove, bathroom, sink, the works. Without a job it was difficult to keep the think in gas though.

I haven't given up yet. let me know more of your travels.

Cheers!

well, everyone seems to be as bored as myself. I am still trying to make my way through the days, hoping that I will soon be able to afford to leave.
Do you think it's worth while going RTW even on a very low budget. Starting with lets say $3000 American dollars or should I hang back another year, by then it would be unlikely that I would go.
HELP me!

Yvette: you can do a hell of a lot on $3000, ESPECIALLY if it's american! I say do it now - a year is a long time and you'll regret wasting it! there is always work-along-the-way, and although few other things are certain, this is: the corporate world will still be there when/if you get back!

Hope that helps....charge!!

I've spent the last two months working on a project that was cancelled by a client I am certain is possessed by some minor demon. urrrrrgggh. I did buy a ticket for Chile yesterday, though, so things are definitely looking up...

Sounds like a nightmare Toddw. It reminds me
of Dilbert today..you know the cartoon. Every day I read that cartoon...I realize how true it is. And it make me laugh. Laugh hard.

Just stumbled upon these boards. Should be renamed "losers anonymous". Everyone has some really witty story about how unproductive they are, how much time they can steal from their employer without getting caught...how much junk food they can ingest instead of being productive. Get a life and maybe a job you can enjoy instead of hating yourselves so dramatically...

Me...I'm leaving for Yellowstone for 8 great days and nights of backcountry isolation and beauty...thanks job...

driven4, did it ever occur to you that these people do have lives, but jobs they don't want?

travel may be the great escape, but it's normally just that you're looking for 'something else'. change is very good for you, keeps you thinking

hope you had a good time in yellowstone and keep smiling!

Rxx

Rox: They have jobs they don't like? In this the greatest job hunter's market in the last 50 years? I doubt they have lives or know how to live them...

Guess you're just more charitable than I...

I'm new here. All I know is I want out of my current corporate hellhole.

Travel is just the ticket, mate. Leisure will give me pleasure.

Any suggestions for a trip to start? I like party holidays...

Simon: If you're looking for a party holiday in Europe, go to Ibiza in Spain. After a week or two there, you'll need another vacation......
