I like the idea of this. I've recently been pigeonholed into translating and backtranslating vendor contracts into and from legal Spanish, and it sucks. There are some abilities it's best an employer not know about.

If you're the sole translator you could have a lot of fun with that. A LOT of fun...just saying.

I wholeheartedly support strategic incompetence.

My boss busted me speaking Spanish on the phone to my girlfriend a while back, and I could see the lightbulb flicker on.

When I first started working for companies (my naive days!) I always used to tell them that I spoke Welsh and French... within no time at all you're bombarded with extra work for the same pay and occasionally an "oh it's so impressive that you can do that!"... the novelty soon ware's off so now I never mention it and often lower my standard of English ... after the interview that is

Thank you for the term, strategic incompetence. It fits our office dynamic perfectly. I'm going to add that on to my own term, collective amnesia, which is used for the countless meetings about the same things, that burden my daydreaming and Boots time.
