Holds PhD in Packing |
I have absolutely no motivation to do any work this week, or any week for that matter, because all I can think about is going travelling. I won't be going until next year because there's no way I'll have enough money until then. In fact, I'm at work right now, clockwatching and achieving fuck all - I really can't be arsed with my job! If this persists I'll never end up going anywhere because I can't focus enough to work hard to get the money to go travelling to fulful my dream....
heeeellllppp!!! Anyone else been feeling like this recently? |

How has it taken so long for me to see this post? I can totally empathize. I'm constantly watching the clock for my 40 hours to be up.
It's mind numbing saving up money when you aren't travelling. |

Hey Croz!!
Cheers for the reply - I thought this forum was called 'corporate wasteland' - where are all the job-haters out there? At least I'm not alone. A year is a long time - good for planning, crap for the waiting. I think I need to play the lottery or start gambling or something. That should sort out the finances! When are you travelling croz? |

I don't even have tickets yet. I'm at 135,000 skymiles and when I get to 140,000 I'm going to book a first-class flight to Bangkok and do the SE Asia circuit. (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia) I'd guess it will happen around April of next year.
Until then, I'm doing contract programming work. My current contract is up in March of next year, so that would be an ideal time to dip out. It's painstaking having to wait so long though... |

Perpetual Tourist |
Hey there....Welcome to the BnA Boards.
Here's a quote from Homer Simpson "Hate your job, don't quit, just go to work everyday & do a half ass job....it's the American Way". When I heard this....I thought...How true. I used to love my job, now I just like it and sometimes hate it. I too, think about travel all the time, which sometimes sucks cause you know you can't leave, like this very minute. Travel seems to be a waiting game. Waiting to save enough cash to go. Planning the trip enough so you're not ignorant about where you're going/doing, but not too much to where you know it all and loose the "adventure" of it. Planning out the details- getting you health, dentist appts done before you're insurance ends. Waiting to get up the nerve to finally quit Waiting for your departure date What's helped me as I talk about it all the time, so people know I'm leaving and they can get over the shock of it now before it actually happens. Plus the more I say it the more I believe it too. Cheers p.s. In the meantime, just try to keep your sanity. Kiss, Kiss, Kiss and still no prince... |

Exactamundo socalgirl. My job ain't that bad - I got the newspaper the other day, looking to see what other jobs are out there - I realised things could be a lot worse than what I'm doing right now - plus, ironically my job used to be selling the space for the job adverts, in that very same paper!!. There are times where it's very easy to fantasise about getting home after a hard day, packing your bags and boarding a plane immediately and saying goodbye to all. I guess it'll all be worth it eventually, when I finally doget home from the office (for the last time in a long time), pack my bag and just go. Patience is a virtue. It should be a type of sedative if you ask me I guess we gotta hang in there Croz, Christmas seemed like yesterday, it'll be round again before we know it ... |

Knows What a Schengen Visa Is |
I just stumbled across this post while at..you guessed it..work. This website is my clutch while I'm here. I watch the clock everyday hoping that the time ticks faster so I can receive my bi-weekly paycheck and get out of here. Hopefully another couple months and I will be in SE Asia but until then the office calls. Not only the office, I also waitress on the side for extra money. Two jobs, and I still feel broke. It's discouraging.

Hey - is it worth it?
Are there any other options? Like trying some other job? Or just going - maybe you don't need that much money to travel after all (there are ways to do it cheaply), or maybe you can get some job along the way and it will be part of the experience...? Just something to consider... |

Armchair Traveler |
I am only 18, but I feel trapped here doing my work study. It is supposed to go toward my education, but I am going to save up my earnings and get out of here at the end of this year for at least three months. I am going insane here, constantly getting those panic attacks at seeing people so stuck in thier little routines. I am hoping to take my first solo trip in the summer, but I really cannot think yet of a way to make a life out of traveling. how will I continue to afford do it long term? I ask myself constantly.
Just keep the state of mind you have, and you will not get sucked down. be thankfull that you are not one of those people who watch the clock like that for forty or fifty years, and then die! |

Ah, clock watching: The essence of my day. Also, calendar watching. I'm quitting my job in four weeks, which feels so close I should be able to touch it, but I can't, because it's not here yet. So frustrating. Then it's six months at home (the place where, "when you have to go there, they have to take you in") and finally, leaving for a RTW next June.
Hey, the minute hand just moved! |
