Having caused a bit of a cock-up today at work and to add a break to the "aaaaaaaargh I hate work, I wanna be on a desert island etc" theme around here I figured, learn from your peers. So what "total cock-up's" you have done at work - and how/if you resolved them. For example;

Today I had to pay for "congestion charge" for someone in the office. The congestion charge in London for those not in the know is a charge right, to drive in the centre of London. Imagine being charged to drive around say.... Manhattan and your there. So anyway, on I goes to the website, makes my selection. I could have selected the 1 Day (£5) a week (£25) or a month (£100). I was aware that a month had been mentioned but couldnt remember if this person drove every day. No one in the office and well, as I was doing this as a favour and had NO idea what the fuck I was doing and was apparently against the clock (they had just left the office).... I purchased a month.... It transpired, all that was required was a day. So yeah, £100 charged to a credit card that needed to say £5. "Woops" not good. In set total terror.... How the hell was I going to explain this... I call the Congestion Charge company and get through to a guy who, for the first time in a very long time for me, was very very helpful. Imagine that! Customer service that's just that. I know, amazing!

Cut a long one short, I managed to get them to refund 75% and "blagged" the mistake as miscommunication! Ah yeah!

Phew,

It's going around Dan. I screwed up one of our accounts and had to run hoops all day to fix it. The boss says, "Oh by the way, we can't give you that raise afterall - and your paycheck is in question, as well." Just great.

Jet

And I spilled coffee on myself this morning, thus confirming that I'm an idiot.

I'm actully looking forward to going home and cleaning my toilet. It's gotta be better than this.

There's just something weird in the air and it's been one of the worst, most fucked up weeks in a long time. The worst: on Saturday my dog was run over and died in my arms.
Then two days ago I have a bike accident where I fly over the rails for no fucking reason whatsoever. One of the spokes must have had a construction flaw or something because as I go up a slight hill the front wheel just bent in half and there was absolutely NOTHING on the road. Thankfully I have nothign worse than bruises.
Then all my collegues either get sick or need a root canal.
Then we actually had a fist fight at work (it's a shelter but this rarely happens).
Then I find out the other Shelter where in 2 months I'm supposed to take over the head job (i.e. a promotion, manager/director basically) just might get closed down.
When is this going to end?

I screwed up at work and I"m really upset/worried about it.

I woke up this morning screaming swear words when I realized that there was a timed task I was supposed to have done for the last 2 nights that I totally forgot about. I'm supposed to be helping a colleague with his project and I forgot. Meaning, even worse than screwing up my own shit- I screwed up someone else's.

And even worse- about a year ago I was doing the exact same protocol with the exact same person and someone wrongly accused me of forgetting it. It was a huge political debacle since she then spread this news to everyone in the office and I had to vociferously defend myself. Now I've gone and done what I swore responsible, level-headed me would never do.

Fuck.

Oh, and my annual review is... tomorrow. This is going to look fantastic.

kill me now. Help

I can't even go into the pages of fuck-ups, both mine and others that have gone on at work lately...

However, I'll tell you what I can't believe I said to our executive producer while 8 of us were at the lunch table.

He always looks different; hair cuts, weight gain or loss, sickness...we were guessing what he'd changed, and out of my mouth I hear...

"Geez, Alan, you're a regular old Mr. Potato Head, with all your looks"...

It still cracks me up..laughing out loud in a very quiet office always makes me feel better.
