Boots people,

I am at work now, pretty much bored off my nut. I'mm sitting here surfing boots and reading all these stories and can't wait to save up and go on my next adventure. My question:

Is it wrong to be surfing while I am at work. I know lot's of people do it but is it morally wrong to surf while someone else is paying you? Just wante to hear others opinions.

Thanks,
JohnB

Yes - it is a terrible thing to do. You shouldn't ever do such a rotten thing...

Oh well, time to get back to work.

Hey, if you can surf and get your job done why not? If your boss can't give you enough challenging work that's his problem, he's probably surfing too. You might make some friends on the web and find a new job, then your boss will be the loser.
Just do it.

Hmmm, it's been awhile since someone hit this, but I think it's a good topic to check out. I agree with one of the other posters: if you can fit in a touch of surfing (or emailing or im'ing or - gasp! - posting on the BootBoards) without it hacking the hell out of your productivity, go for it!

I think that surfing and emailing and such are just at the stage where companies look at them the way they used to look at the phone: you shouldn't use it for personal anything. That attitude's changed a lot, by and large: it's okay, but it should be used sparingly, but mainly the thing is making sure you're still getting work done.

Same with surfing. Besides, especially with the American corporate climate, if bosses expect you to bust your balls ridiculous hours (10, 12 hour days) and sometimes even weekends, I don't know about you, but I'm not going to cry any rivers if over that email I sent to my best friend in Scotland, or the travel article I wanted to check out, or the message board thread I had to get my two cents thrown into.

What'chall think

John B,

Your not 'surfing the web' you're doing research. In this time of globalisation your boss should give you a pay rise for so dilligently going after the key info.....that's my opinion anyway!
