I am required to give 3 months notice of leaving under my contract which I am doing on 31st October. In a way it is a good thing as I can stop pretending I am interested in my job and the cat is out of the bag.
The best case scenario is they find a replacement within 6 weeks and pay me for the rest and let me go. I think this is unlikely and I will be required to work until the end of January.
Has anyone been in a similar situation of giving such a long notice period? How did you stay focussed watching the days tick by in a job in which you have no interest and what was the attitude of fellow workers/bosses?

I am actually in the exact same situation as you right now. I handed in my 3 months notice yesterday and yeah it's hard to stay focused. I'm leaving for South East Asia on the 7th of February though and I'm lucky to be working in Technical Support with nothing to do except for maybe 3-4 calls a day so I stay focused by spending all my time in work doing research on the places I'm going to and posting on travel forums Smile. The attitude from my fellow workers/bosses is pretty ok and they all wish me a great trip.

Hey,

I am in your situation also. I am actually going to Sydney on 2nd February. I hate my job, my boss has sensed it for a while! I am currently working another job on top of this to fund my trip, and am having a few finacial setbacks at the moment but everything should be OK eventually (I hope!) I have alwasy found it hard to stay focussed as I have wanted to get away for so long.

You must keep at it though, and if you think abour it, it is only 12 or 13 weeks away! It will fly past!

Well I did it today and the countdown is on. No surprise to my boss who must have picked up on the fact that my mind has been elsewhere.
Somehow I have got to keep plugging on for 3 months but all I can think of is taking off in feb for the best year of my life.
I think the rest of the year is going to be hard but as soon as we hit 2006 it will fly.
Life is certainly not about the corporate wasteland but as the saying goes you've got to drink the froth to get to the beer.
