Hi all im new here.

My name is Luis

Im confused and worried and i wanted to share something with people that might relate on this forum and perhaps get some views on my situation..

I live in Syd,Australia and (migrated from portugal when i was 10, im 26 now). I have been wanting to travel and possibly relocate to europe, get new jobs.. i have skill, education and experience to get a decent job in my industry. But i never had the guts to take the chance and just lived my boring 9-5 life here like everyone else i know.. less then a year ago i started a business with some ex-workmates and good friends, we produce websites and run them under company name, we have a real estate listing site and more to come.. we are fairly new and wont make hardly any money for another 1-2 years, but we are just going through mostly development..anyway i work 95% of the time from home over the internet.

3 months ago, my girlfriend and I had decided we were unhappy with our lifestyle and avoiding our dreams..we decided to say screw it..lets go. and got tickets to travel around europe with an open mind to stay.. Well my girlfriend wants to live + work in england. MY business partners are ok with it but they do hope and assume i will come back after 3 months.. but my girlfriend and I could possibly end up living in london or portugal.

I like working with my friends, but im not happy in sydney and i really dont like this city for various reasons.

I feel like an idiot for leaving or attempting to work in another timezone, (my job requires updating and emailing documents and webpagesetc..)

basicly its a 2 way street, where I want to go and Where i should go.. it is stupid to start a business and go overseas i know. but im going to attempt to do both. Im just not sure im doing the right thing. or that I can do it

I will have my laptop with wifi and wil ltry to get a few hours every couple of days of work done.. but I feel really dreadful and confused in trying to pick 2 things I want to do, but If i dont travel now.. i never will.

Thats my story and im leaving in 7 weeks.

Hey Luis &Carly,
Unhappy with your lifestyle? Does that change when moving abroad? I don´t think so. Lifestyle is a personal choice, at least for me. If you are happy to work with your friends than keep doing that. If you are unhappy with Sidney, I don´t know why, than you should move, out side of the city or even into the country. I heard that Australia is fairly big, so space enough there is. Cracking Up

Should you like to work with your friends and as you say you work 95% at home so you could dare to move abroad, which is expensive and quite different than the romantic notion people normally carry with them. You need to make new friends, and you need to adjust to a culture which is at least different.
I hope it helped a bit

Just to interject from a practical perspective, you can definitely work remotely but it's not without it's disadvantages. The huge time zone difference in particular will make working "real time" pretty difficult.

I'm in California, and have done lots of work with folks over in India, and while it's doable and can be successful, the super early or super late conference calls get to be a drag after a while. I imagine you'd experience similar time zone issues between Europe and Australia.

Absolutely correct. Web business is tedious sometimes but gives you some freedom. Unfortunately our ideal situation is hampered by the passport question. Not all nationalities make travel troubleless. So I went and gave it a try, to make a change and I got lucky.
