I have a travel job but I have't started yet. I have training next week.
The position is called "Travel Director". It is with a corporate travel company. They do all kinds of corporate travel progams; training, sales rewards, product launches etc. I go along to make sure things go smooth and everybody gets on the right planes and show up in the right hotel. I'll know more after I actually start. O O O o o oo o I ..~ ~ | [(o o)]J ..\@/ |

I'm currently studying a business degree specialising in tourism management... and came across a section on this type of work and it got me very interested! What kind of knowledge and experience do you need to get into the industry? ________________________________________________________________ "When making your choice in life, do not neglect to live." -- Dr Samuel Johnson |

That wouldn't happen to be w/ Maritz, would it? They just called me this week asking if I'd be interested in a position as a TD. I'm talking to people I know who've done that , trying to find out "the scoop." The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page. ---St. Augustine |

No it isn't with Mauritz. It is a much smaller company based out of Des Moines. They do have people who work as Travel Directors who are located all over the country. My main qualification is that I am flexible about how much I work. The way they have it set up is that it isn't a full time job. It is intermitent. So I only work when they need me and I can turn down jobs if I don't want to go. The first year especially you may not work much.
It works for me because this is my "semi retirement" job. I worked in accounting and banking for the last 20+ years and I was looking for something a lot different. I also have my expenses down so if I don't work all the time that is ok. The job is flexible so I can have time to do my own traveling too. It just seemed like a good fit for me. I will let you know what I think after I have had training. If you PM me I will email you the web site of the company. They have a lot of other jobs in the company but for the majority of them you would have to live in Des Moines I think. O O O o o oo o I ..~ ~ | [(o o)]J ..\@/ |

Do you want a job that you travel for, or just a job related to travel?

Mostly just jobs that allow you to travel, but I'll check anything out. So far I've done travel nursing, bus driver, flight attendant, travel director and coding auditor. It's really hard to find good jobs to post about.
I'm also in the full-time job market, so I'm using some of the leads to try to figure out what I can do to travel besides my old career in sales ___________________________________ Carrie Business Travel Logue: So much more than just bad flights and hotel bars... Why don't you try to get a job at an investment firm that specilizes in emerging markets? Thats what I did. I get to go to Africa in June.

Sounds interesting...as a post and a job. What job titles would I look for within the companies? Thanks and have fun in Africa! I've only been to Tangier, but I'm planning on the Kili climb in a few years...

Its so varried, I wouldn't go for titles. They don't seem to mean a whole lot. Just look for investment firms. You might want to look at small ones. They will give you a better change at landing a diversified position.

Still need Travel Based Jobs for the Business Travel Logue.
Anyone interested in submitting an article about your job to be published in the Logue? I try to profile a different travel based job each Thursday in the Business Travel Logue. I think it would mean a lot more coming from someone in the field than from me. If you want to see what I've done before, check http://www.businesstravellogue.com/tag/travel+jobs/ here. You're welcome to respond or e-mail me at carrie@businesstravellogue.com ___________________________________ Carrie Business Travel Logue: So much more than just bad flights and hotel bars...
