After a couple of months of interviews, postponed interviews and more interviews, the HR lady called from home to let me know that they had chosen someone else.
Fuckity-fuck-fuck!
They had chosen someone from Eagle Creek and, guess what? Her boss is from Eagle Creek. Coincidence? I think not.
So, I am now back to square one. Meanwhile, this job as Consumer & Industry Relations (for another well-known outdoor equipment manufacturer) is barely paying the bills or supporting my jet-set lifestyle.
I did get a job offer though: Manager of a Blue Ridge Mountain Sports store in...wait for it...Winston-Salem, NC.
(I don't think that my former girlfriend would like that, so I declined)
Still looking.

Booooooooo...that suuuuucks. Sorry to hear it, but I'm sure you'll find the perfect job at the perfect time. Chin up, ol' chap (woops, gotta stop watching Mary Poppins).
Whaaat?! Their loss. I'm sorry you didn't get the job. How could they not realize how wonderful you are? I think you should get a new job at Ruff Wear. You'd be closer to me and Maggie would love it!

Thanks. I am seriously looking for a job outside of the Outdoor Industry. Any similar job outside of my industry pays $10k more just to start. For example, I have an interview this week with a refrigeration company. I am sick and tired of living hand to mouth.

Mate, you possess well-above-average intelligence, you are humorous, likable, and, when you choose to be, quite charming. Your popularity on these boards is testimony to that. Set your sights higher; think about sales. It doesn't matter what you sell - paper bags, insurance, restaurant equipment or money - just as long as you see the opportunity to sell lots of it.
I used to hate salespeople. Then I became one. And I still hate salespeople because they're mostly worthless. But a smart man, such as yourself, can maintain his integrity, sell lots of stuff, and make a very comfortable living.
Oh, and sales often equals travel, paid-for travel.

I hear your pain. We all know how it feels to be *rejected* in the world of job application. It can be really crushing to the ego when another yayhoo gets the job you want and know you're perfect for. Would it make you feel better if I tell you this probably isn't the last time it'll happen?
It's all about serendipity. Just wasn't meant to happen, there is something else on your horizon that would have been squelched if you'd gotten that job. You'll see, another path through life you would never have taken if you'd gotten the job.
Some many years ago I applied for a position at the CHP. Yes indeed, the evil California Highway Patrol (great money and bennies). I got past the first application, 2 rounds of interviews, fingerprints, etc., I was on my way. When I got to the next round of selection I intentionally blew the interview. Gave them crap answers to their questions and walked out the door. No job offer.
If I had played the game I'd probably be stuck there to this very day, tied down by the money and the perks and the pension and the job security. I'd still be sitting in the same room doing the same thing, having watched most of my life slip away.
You'll feel better in a couple of days.

I'm currently doing the job search as well... frustraing as hell, really. Why can't you get paid to backpack the world?
Seriously though, I send out dozens of resumes via craigslist posts and get few (if any) call backs. and its not like these jobs are way above me. Shit, most of them are entry level. What the f*ck!?!
